The State of Texas Top Legal Officer Sues Tylenol Makers Concerning Autism Assertions

Courtroom Case
The Texas Attorney General, who supports former President Trump seeking election to US Senate, alleged the drug companies of concealing safety concerns of Tylenol

Texas Attorney General Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the manufacturers of Tylenol, asserting the companies hid potential risks that the pain reliever posed to pediatric neurological development.

The lawsuit comes thirty days after Former President Trump promoted an unsubstantiated connection between consuming acetaminophen - alternatively called acetaminophen - while pregnant and autism in children.

Paxton is filing suit against J&J, which previously sold the medication, the only pain reliever recommended for expectant mothers, and the current manufacturer, which now manufacturers it.

In a declaration, he claimed they "misled consumers by profiting off of discomfort and promoting medication ignoring the dangers."

The company states there is no credible evidence tying acetaminophen to autism.

"These manufacturers lied for decades, deliberately risking countless individuals to boost earnings," Paxton, from the Republican party, declared.

The company commented that it was "very worried by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the safety of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of US mothers and children."

On its website, Kenvue also stated it had "continuously evaluated the relevant science and there is no credible data that indicates a proven link between consuming paracetamol and autism."

Groups speaking for physicians and healthcare providers concur.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has declared acetaminophen - the key substance in acetaminophen - is among limited choices for pregnant women to manage discomfort and fever, which can present significant medical dangers if ignored.

"In over twenty years of research on the utilization of acetaminophen in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has successfully concluded that the usage of paracetamol in any stage of gestation causes neurodevelopmental disorders in young ones," the organization stated.

The court filing mentions current declarations from the Trump administration in arguing the medication is potentially dangerous.

Recently, Trump generated worry from public health officials when he instructed women during pregnancy to "struggle intensely" not to use acetaminophen when ill.

The FDA then released a statement that medical professionals should consider limiting the consumption of Tylenol, while also stating that "a causal relationship" between the medication and autism in young ones has not been established.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who manages the FDA, had promised in April to undertake "comprehensive study program" that would establish the origin of autism spectrum disorder in a matter of months.

But experts advised that discovering a sole reason of autism spectrum disorder - believed by scientists to be the result of a intricate combination of genetic and surrounding conditions - would prove challenging.

Autism spectrum disorder is a type of permanent neurological difference and condition that impacts how people encounter and interact with the environment, and is recognized using doctors' observations.

In his court filing, Paxton - a Trump ally who is seeking US Senate - claims Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "willfully ignored and tried to quiet the evidence" around acetaminophen and autism.

The lawsuit aims to force the companies "remove any commercial messaging" that claims acetaminophen is safe for women during pregnancy.

This legal action parallels the complaints of a collection of guardians of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the manufacturers of Tylenol in recently.

A federal judge dismissed the lawsuit, stating investigations from the plaintiffs' authorities was inconclusive.
