2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Mixed Response

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a distinct vision.

The president noted that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news echoes a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”

With your dedication and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the need for a more distinct identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our players.

The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. After several months of conversations, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s management and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years creating and leading some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

The appointee currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Concept

Project Ethos was announced in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Initially, the developers portrayed the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the genre."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect further news as development continues.
