Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones persist in remembering the pair.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt able to express about his profound loss.
"Sufficient time has gone by that I can finally put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, noting that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "As we began sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor uploaded never-before-seen clips from the film, remarking that he doesn't recollect "one day without laughter".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a distinct piece, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the lead role.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted
Recently, a Los Angeles court official agreed to block the publication of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate put a restriction on the investigation to restrict the public release of "any investigative information, documents, files or images" pertaining to the active case.
The coroner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the consequence of murder, with a public database listing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
Following the deaths, public individuals offered different reactions.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, offering controversial statements that were widely condemned by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the detractors recently. Talking on his show, Rogan characterized the remarks as "shocking" and remarked they demonstrated a concerning absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by remarking that an associate should have intervened when the choice to speak on the death was made.
